Wellesley, Massachusetts, USA
Founded in 1919, Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts, prepares and motivates its students to create economic and social value in their organizations, communities and around the world. The college’s variety of distinctive educational buildings provide spaces for its students to gather on campus, share ideas and knowledge. A variety of the campus’ buildings feature Kawneer’s architectural aluminum systems, including our OptiQ® AA®4325 and AA®5450 Series Windows, to provide thermal performance and energy efficiency.
Babson College’s collaborative community allows its students to gain the fundamental business skills and liberal arts knowledge necessary to cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset that allows them to navigate real business situations and be equipped to make a difference on campus and around the world. Home to 2,800+ undergraduate students and 1,200+ graduate students from 80+ countries, the campus’ dynamic and vibrant atmosphere empowers its students to work toward becoming the entrepreneurial leaders of tomorrow.
While Babson College’s Neo-Georgian style helped establish its architectural identity, the college’s advanced age required a complete renovation to bring the buildings up to the expectations of incoming students to promote occupant comfort, energy efficiency and sustainability. Meanwhile, the architects desired to preserve the buildings’ historic character and fit the college’s housing needs.

Standing as one of the main academic buildings on the campus, Tomasso Hall is also home to the Foundations of Management and Entrepreneurship (FME) program, which is a year-long class where first-year students develop, launch and manage a real business with a loan of up to $3,000 from the school.
The hall’s renovation includes a 2-story addition with modern architectural aluminum systems and materials to emphasize the building’s new entrance and orientation. Kawneer’s OptiQ® AA®5450 Series Double-Hung and Fixed Windows with 7/8”- to 1-1/8”-thick insulating glass and beveled sash were installed to provide ultra-thermal performance for the building. Factory-applied historical muntins, custom exterior panning and interior snap-trim were also installed, including half screens for the double-hung windows.
Further, our OptiQ® AA®4325 Series Windows were utilized on the project, with cam locks, interior snap-trim and fixed and wicketed screens.
