The St. Vincent Health Sciences Center at St. John’s University in Queens, New York, seamlessly blends into the academic heart of the campus. Envisioned by architects at CannonDesign, the educational facility’s dynamic and captivating architectural features draw people in with its sculptural elegance.
At the core of the building’s design is a multistory common space that serves as an academic hub, fostering interaction between students and faculty. The sunlit “living room” features flexible seating and open sightlines to the surrounding floors, promoting connectivity and community. The facility also features advanced simulation laboratories along with flexible learning spaces, ensuring adaptability to evolving educational needs.
The Health Sciences Center is constructed using sustainable building materials and energy-efficient systems, including our Clearwall® SSI Curtain Wall System, 1600UT System™1 Curtain Wall, Trifab® VersaGlaze® 451T Framing System and our 350T Insulpour® Thermal Entrances, and is expected to earn LEED Silver® certification. Kawneer’s thermal facade solutions were specified for the project to help minimize thermal loss while enhancing the building’s insulation and reducing energy consumption. The windows also feature bird-safe glass to protect local wildlife. Further, the educational facility is equipped with automatic doors to ensure accessibility and ease of movement for all users. These various features all contribute to the building’s modern, sustainable and occupant-friendly design.
